Secret Origin: Born on the planet Krypton, I was rocketed from that doomed planet, after seeing my parents killed outside a movie theatre, by a radioactive spider. As my capsule entered the Earth's atmosphere, my body was bombarded by strange cosmic radiation. The capsule crashed through the window of a laboratory, and I was flung clear, hitting a shelf, where a strange collection of chemicals was stored. As I sat there, dripping, a bolt of lightning hit me. My own fault for saying "Shazam!" I guess.
All this commotion must have got someone's attention, as I was immediately approached by a shifty looking blue alien, who offered me a magic ring, in return for which I would have to wear spandex. Obviously, I hit him and ran.
I emerged into a strange country, that I now know as America. Striving to find a job, I got drafted, since apparently the Second World War was going on. Noting my strange alien physiology, I was whisked off for research, in a secret base up Alaska way. The plane was shot down, and plunged into the freezing ocean.
Next thing I know, I've been dragged out of the ocean, entombed in a block of ice, in 1991. Now wary of the strange ways of humanity (and pissed off that I'd missed out on the sixties), I quickly gave my rescuers the slip. I hit upon a plan. I must adopt a secret identity, or I'd never get any peace. I decided that I should go to University, since my race's need to sleep 18 hours a day would go unnoticed there. Initially, I thought I'd study your planet's laughably primitive grasp of Physics, only in the end it turned out to be too much like hard work. While Krypton's science is far in advance of yours, I never learned much of it there either.
Today, I continue my lonely struggle against the oppression of being expected to do anything. By day, I am Gareth Roberts, mild mannered IT Professional. By night, I am asleep.
