Mono Tips

The Mono Logs
A recent poll in the Mono Vote <MV> showed that many people did not know that mono has a suite of log files, which are accessible to all users. These log files show which files have been edited, had comments deleted, printed or mailed.

Perhaps the most useful of these is the Edit Log, which is updated every time a user places an edit in a file. (The only exception is for anonymous files, which are NOT logged.) This is a great way of keeping up with popular files and finding sections you may not have known about.

Similarly, the Delete Log can often be useful for checking if a user has removed a comment from a file, which can often explain an interrupted flow of conversation.

The logs menu is situated off the Monochrome Status screen. To enter the Status screen, press ESC followed by L. This screen shows the current state of the Monochrome software, plus a number of statistics. From the status screen, you can press L again, to access the logs menu. You can always just press ESC, L then L to access it directly, of course.

Monoweb

The Monochrome Website
poppy is the Admin team member co-ordinating the Monochrome Website. Currently, she is overhauling it, and bringing it up to date. There has been much progress with making the site easier to use, and including information about Monochrome. The Monoweb section is at <IW>.

The Monochrome website can be found at http://www.mono.org/, and contains information about sections, staff members, accounts and provides a number of tools, such as account maintenance and status/users on information.

Remember Monochrome is an Amazon affiliate, so if you choose your books or CDs through the mono.org website you help Monochrome!

The Monochrome Talker

Interactive Chat
When she's not up to her elbows in web pages, poppy also co-ordinates 'Talker Parties'. Monochrome has a full-featured talker, which you can access by pressing ESC then T at anytime. The talker is a great way of holding a conversation with one or more people and is easier and more interactive than sending messages back and forth.

The talker parties are a way of ensuring there are plenty of people around to chat with, to have fun and to help you get to know the talker. There are a number of users who are familiar with the Talker, and are happy to help with commands and such. A message is sent to all the users on to notify people when the talker parties start, so you don't miss them! You can always find out more in the talker section at <IT>.

Talker Babble
One of Monochrome's most famous files has had a makeover. Babble, the file where you can talk about pretty much anything, is now talker babble. Instead of making edits as you do with normal files, just go into the Talker Common room and say something. After a short while, it'll appear in the talker babble file! <ITB> & <MGB>.
