The SciFi section was originally created by Norm and has changed hands a couple since it's inception. In January 1996 Wardley took control of the section after it had been closed for spring cleaing for most of 1995. Wardley oversaw a huge expansion of the section with the addition of section for many popular programs and the creation of the SciFi Fandom section. Wardley also introduced the current spoiler policy and also recruited two assistants to help enforce it these were Mrorange and Szyzyg. For a short period over summer 1996 Norm returned as moderator of the section while Wardley had limited net access. Wardley returned as moderator once he found gainful employment with net access but due to technical problems stepped down as moderator to ensure the section did not suffer. And on 17th Novemeber 1996 Szyzyg (me) took control of the files as the new moderator. Included below is Norm's original history of the section, I'm sure it makes better reading than mine ever will. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Background The Science Fiction section was the reason I got into being a staff member on Monochrome in the first place. One day, back in the mists of time when Monochrome had only just been opened for external access, and towards the end of my first term at University, I got to noticing that there was no information on here about Star Trek. I chanced to ask abs, the great unknown ruler of all things Monochromatic if he knew of any I might have missed. He sent me a message basically saying 'No. Do you want to put some up ?' Which rather surprised and pleased me. History I quickly ran off into the 'net and located various FAQs on subjects. I plowed my way through the cryptic advanced help files and knocked up a menu, which I submitted several days later to him. He linked it in, and 'TREKtion' was born. This was quickly expanded to cover Quantum Leap, and then later offered information on various other sci-fi subjects, and was generally regarded as one of the more popular of the 'serious' sections. Then, at the same time as the purge on the Television Set (see the Section Remit in for more info) I wanted to improve and re-organise the section. But this kind of fell flat on it's face with my workload for the City University Business School Computer Unit and just trying to keep up to date with most other areas of Monochrome. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
