JANITOR[tm]
This is a little perl script of mine to perform routine maintenance of Monochrome
files. It's nothing like as complex as Mimic or certain other scripts, but
it's quite easy to use and, once I've added a few more features to make it
very easy to use, it will be made available to any staff member for use
on their files.
At the moment its main function is to look through a comment file for edits
older than a specified age, and either delete them, or copy or move them
into a different file.
There are more interesting features planned, such as the ability to censor
naughty words, but for the moment it's just a timekeeper built quickly for
the Newsworld section.
MONOWEB
Monoweb is a more complex affair. It's a set of perl/CGI scripts which process Mono
comment and menu files and create a fairly pretty representation in HTML for
web browsing.
The applications of this may not be immediately obvious. It is _not_ (for the
moment) intended as a front end to Monochrome itself, or as an alternative to
the main system. Possible uses however are manyfold:
- On Monochrome's web pages, to provide read-only access to certain files
or areas on a similar basis to logging in as a guest.
- For staff to prototype areas more easily if they have a slow telnet link
but are able to browse web pages locally. (This is my situation at present.)
- For any other application where you want to display a Mono file on the
web as something other than plaintext.
Currently on its fifth major revision, Monoweb has pretty good support for
things like attributes, processes menus pretty accurately, and looks pretty
pretty! But there's still a lot of work to do.
More details on both of these later. In the meantime, if you want any more information on
my projects just let me know.
